Is this damaging? Scientists are openly attacking colleagues to play culture war politics with the virus. The interviewees are public health experts advocating age-based prioritization intended to lower morbidity and mortality. Anti trumpism can’t even spare a socialist magazine?https://twitter.com/gregggonsalves/status/1308126504707141632 …

This is a very bad take by @MartinKulldorff & @CHeRP_DPM's Katherine Yih. In fact, it's practically Trumpian. It distorts facts, current public health recommendations and ends up awfully close to @SWAtlasHoover's bad advice. 1/ https://www.jacobinmag.com/2020/09/covid-19-pandemic-economy-us-response-inequality …

What happens when the consensus decides you’re the next right wing bot, regardless of your real views? That kind of climate doesn’t end well.

Sorry Grant. This isn’t culture war politics. They made a decision to go to a political magazine to talk about their theories that have little support among their peers and fly in the face of the evidence. They are actively campaigning for bad policy. Stop the nonsense.

The tantrum over this is very telling. You might want to consider spending less time on twitter - it’s not making you a better scientist.

It’s not even true that their peers in epidemiology condemn them. Maybe the twitter intelligentsia does, but as a journalist I often speak to scientists off the record. It’s time for a different, more open debate.

Grant: I’ll look at the interview tomorrow but the entire premise that the entire public health community is lockdown-happy is just ludicrous. Martin is tilting at windmills.

So you didn't even read the piece and jumped to conclusions. Martin said nothing about the public health community being lockdown-happy - he was advocating for an age-based approach - something that curiously gets confused with "let it rip!".

And then your solution to the problem is an article pushing some socialist manifesto under the covid-forever plan... "a new GI Bill for the age of COVID-19"? LOL this keeps getting better. You should call your idea the Great Leap Forward.
