    With arm soreness, Ohtani might be done pitching for the year. This was an injury waiting to happen all year. Joe Maddon should take some heat. Here was my column in the other day on why Ohtani shouldn't be MVP.

    I don’t agree with you on that. Depth is definitely much tougher. No question. But at the top? When Graf won the Slam, Evert and Navratilova were 2-3. Graf faced those 2, Seles, Davenport, Williams sisters, Capriati, Hingis. The top of the game is worse now

    Depth of women’s tennis was non-existent before Serena came along. Much tougher competition from top to bottom today on the women’s side, as evidenced by this year’s US Open.

    Yeah. Maybe this opens the door for the next gen to think this is possible. Medvedev will believe now. But this wasn’t even a competitive match. Djokovic was Aaron Rodgers-bad

    Idk man. Daniil has won 4 of last 6 against him. Not in Slams I know but It’s obviously a matchup that gives him problems. Certainly external factors impacted Novak but maybe Australia was the outlier and yesterday was closer to reality at least on hard courts

    Which tourney do you mean with Serena? She choked vs Clijsters in US Open semis years ago. She fell to pieces. Graf won the grand slam - all 4 in the same year - and Serena never did. There’s a very strong argument that Graf is GOAT based on major win % and time at No. 1

    Have u forgotten the year Serena choked or that does not count. That is what Stefie Graf as, that she does not have.

    I do think that’s a good point. But Djokovic has said a lot of things to explain his feelings, too. But you’re right and I’ve talked with him one-on-one no more than four or five times

    never like analysis that’s predicated on guessing what’s going on inside an athlete’s head. total conjecture and often invented with half the facts. if you’re not with the player all the time and talking to them all the time, how can you speak what’s going on in their heads?

    Off the top of my head, it’s that Nadal has the better head-to-head against Djokovic in majors and Nadal has the greatest accomplishment in tennis history with all those French Opens. Close call IMO

    Also, Federer (born in 1981) had Nadal (born in 86) and Djokovic (born in 87) to follow him when his prime was over. Nadal and Djokovic had no such generation that close behind them. That matters in simply counting majors.

    Sampras, Borg, Laver are shortchanged in GOAT debate. Laver would’ve gotten 20 if he’d have been allowed. Borg might’ve won 20 French. Sampras played on slow clay & fast grass. People didn’t play OZ. It wasn’t always about counting majors. You can’t hold that against the past

    It’s a wonderful debate to have as these 3 are in the same era. Only 5 others win majors in how many years? Del Po, Stan, Andy, Cilic, Med today….others in how many majors over that span? Awesome

    If Djokovic could’ve stayed focused on the task at hand like a real GOAT and not been so obsessed by his legacy and his desperation to be loved like Federer and Nadal, he would have won the Grand Slam today. He choked out of vanity

    Bears GM Ryan Pace & coach Matt Nagy were told to improve this year or they’re out. They clearly are worse than last year. The only hope to save their jobs is to say Fields proves they’re on the right track. Look for Fields to play a lot in Game 2 and start Game 3

    On Djokovic: This was a royal chokejob. Once he beat Nadal at the French Open and Nadal withdrew from the US Open (and Federer is washed up) Djoker SHOULD HAVE won the Grand Slam. The rest of the tour is the minor leagues.
