Folks suggesting my original tweet compares the “spread” of car crashes to that of an infectious disease: no, the point is that we’ve normalized a preventable cause of death (roads/cars) because it’s familiar. Since my tweet 16 hrs ago, 2,500 more people have died on the roads.
Coronavirus may fizzle out, but the downside risk is pretty huge - the worldwide death toll *could* be in the tens of millions. Also, it's hard to trust China's numbers.
