Terry McAuliffe: "I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach."

"I get really tired of everybody running down teachers. I love our teachers and what they've done through covid, these are real heroes who deserve our respect."
That's what McAuliffe said right after for the inevitable journo that accuses me of cutting off his full remark

Government, including school boards and teachers, work for the parents. We absolutely are able to tell you what we want you to teach and what we don't want you to teach. We are the parents. It seems you all have forgotten that.

Huh. I didn’t realize parents all went to years of higher education to specifically understand child development, effective teaching strategies, psychology, and a mastery of subject matter. I can’t imagine why y’all wouldn’t be first on the list for writing curriculum. 🧐

Well.
Glad he's not my governor, now or in the future. Because parents are exactly who should be telling schools what to teach.

Then give them they’re tax money back and let them decide where to have their children educated. The children are not a possession of the state. I work in the public schools. Parents have every right to have their hands on what schools teach. It’s their community

Yep. Trust me, that will change the tune of a school board faster than anything.

Like most Democrats, he thinks government should be the determiner of what's right for our kids.

That’s actually how it works. The people elect government and school board officials to make these decisions for everyone. If you don’t like it, you have options like private school, home school, and maybe a charter school.
