This is correct Police contained larger crowds over the summer because the crowds were peaceful Had they been as violent as these MAGAts, you'd have seen a retreat similar to Minneapolis's 3rd precinct evacuationhttps://twitter.com/robertwiblin/status/1347168130578182145 …

I'm no expert in riot control but when outnumbered so severely you have to make a staged retreat at the point you're about to be beaten back regardless. (See: https://twitter.com/elijahschaffer/status/1346966514990149639 …) If you try to use violence to stop them you run a high risk of simply being overpowered... 2/

It depends on what the goal is If your sole objective is not being beaten into submission by law enforcement, sure having a violent mob works If your goal is effecting political change, it doesn't. It becomes domestic terrorismhttps://twitter.com/glindsey/status/1347214065790316544 …

Frankly, it sounds like what you're saying is that violent protest works better than peaceful ones. And given the almost total lack of consequences for these seditionists, that seems to be the lesson to take away here.

I don't dispute that at all. Just explaining why, for example, the "they took down the barricades!" chatter isn't what people think it is. We saw the same tactic in New York City over the summerhttps://twitter.com/matt7738/status/1347216448670863368 …

Not seeing a lot of response to this particular domestic terrorism. Any idea on what might happen?

Agreed. But there were other perimeters that were breached and shouldn't have been, including the wide variety of computers accessed and the trashing of docs in the Parliamentarian's office The fact Secret Service and the Sergeants-at-Arms held the chambers is little comfort https://twitter.com/bradmit94383370/status/1347226756881784833 …

They will be wrong, because many of those consequences come quietly, later, when they're no longer watching. But that take-away that many people will have is *extraordinarily* dangerous
