NOTES:
I've gotten a number of questions about what process we're using to verify the videos that make the thread
Here's what I've been doing
If a suggested entry is from a traditional media outlet, I piggyback off them – it's presumed accurate until we learn otherwise
1/
For new video, we check the tweet / hashtags / etc in Twitter Search to see if other people have different-but-similar tweets / photos / vids of the same area + time
2/
(e.g. the video of the guy driving his car into the crowd in Seattle also pulls up a lot of just-text "omg this guy just drove into the crowd" tweets with Seattle geotags) 3/
For video that seems "lonely" (no useful corroborating data comes from Twitter Search), we use Google + Google Maps + Tineye to look for corrobating stories and to verify location if possible
4/
If there are people we know from past submissions are actually there on the ground recording, we treat them like journalists and presume they're continuing to share original media
We ignore pre-protest videos I know I've seen from working on the @fsckemall podcast
5/
On the couple occasions where we've gotten it wrong (e.g. a video several told us was Seattle turned out to be Philadelphia; Jason noticed because the uniforms were different), we tweet out a correction quote-tweeting the original submission
6/
It's probably not a perfect process, but the few corrections needed thus far suggests it works pretty well It is a stupidly slow process though, which is why I'm only adding 10-20 videos a day 7/7
