So what did the car actually see? Well, it turns out at first it looked like an obstacle so it slowed down some, then it decided that nah, there's nothing and lifted it's "foot" off the brakes, huh?pic.twitter.com/bun4mrxKOZ

We also see no evasive maneuvering of any kind was attempted (not that I expected any, but many seem to think it's something AP does?) Moral here is - take over early at the slightest hint of trouble, don't wait for AP to do a sensible thing or you might run out of time

I am not sure what you mean. 1. Tesla has a blackbox 2. disengaging AP moments before impact does not really help anything?

Security measure ? So AP does not interfear with the emergency manuever of the driver who thus have full control ?
-
Well, one would think it would happen AFTER the driver took control by using those controls, no?

with the last second disengagement, doesn’t this make moot any claim ever made about tesla on autopilot being more safe than not?
-
“Teslas with AP engaged are safer than those without?”

Is that the ultrasonics? Once it gets a solid reading from the ultrasonics it disengages?
-
Could not be. my highway encounter happened outside of ultrasonics range (also they are sort of laggy)
