Citizens United didn't affect direct contributions to candidates. we have GOP control of both houses bc we didn't pay enough attention to the last Census & subsequent districting. Bc of this, most House races were not competitive. This is where our focus must be.

I remember when the 'get money out of politics" lobby swore that McCain-Feingold was desperately needed. It didn't change a thing, except to make it more expensive for non-rich candidates to raise money. And it distracted from the real problem: districting (& gerrymandering).

While I'm sure shady money in elections is a big problem, wouldn't it be better to compare presidential year to presidential year and then adjust for inflation to get a more fair comparison, i.e. 2008 vs 2016?

Just looking at the top 20 donors, Dems received roughly $305 million and GOP received about $235 million. Overall, seems close to an even split. I would guess the Dems are not all that upset about Citizens United.
