In my new book, Beaten Down, Worked Up, my goal was to explain labor unions & worker power—past & present—to people who are eager to know more about labor. I write about the rise of unions & how they lifted millions of workers & built the middle class

Yes, it's 47 years later, but I--and many people I know--are still angry about the overthrow of Allende. Allende was a good man, a fighter for social justice. Pinochet, who overthrew him, was a bloodthirsty killer & dictator. Very unfortunately, Nixon & Kissinger backed Pinochet

One can criticize Bernie & any other politician for some of their past positions. For Bret Stephens to fault Bernie for still being angry about the murderous Pinochet's overthrow of Salvador Allende is OUTRAGEOUS. Remember, the CIA aided in that overthrow

There's an exciting new face and frontier of unionization in the U.S. as unions rack up numerous organizing wins in fields with little unionization, like art museums, tech firms, digital media, nonprofits, cannabis shops, even presidential campaigns.

In my book, Beaten Down, Worked Up, I explain that 60% of America's low-wage workers don’t receive any paid sick days--a problem that could help spread the coronavirus Unfortunately worker power in the US is too weak to enact a federal paid sick days law

The U.S. is the ONLY INDUSTRIAL NATION that doesn't guarantee all workers paid sick days. By 85% to 14%, Americans want a law that would guarantee paid sick leave to all workers. But corporate lobbyists have repeatedly gotten lawmakers from one party, the GOP, to block passage

Corporate America and its lobbyists are helping spread the coronavirus by repeatedly blocking federal legislation that would guarantee all workers paid sick days This means that many cooks, waiters & fast-food workers go to work sick, e.g..with the flu.

Every single American — whether Republican, Democrat or independent — should recognize that Donald Trump is literally a public menace on this, sabotaging our nation's public health and our emergency preparedness when he says that worries about coronavirus are a new hoax.

Do you agree with me that it's tantamount to High Crimes and Misdemeanors for Trump to say concerns about the spread of the Coronavirus are a "new hoax"? It shows Trump's huge contempt for the public good and for public health.

Unions are having a burst of success organizing young workers in numerous sectors with little or no tradition of unionization: art museums, cannabis shops, tech firms, digital media, even presidential campaigns.

Nikki Haley must be delighted that Trump appointed Pence as his point man on Coronavirus. If there's a huge outbreak, Trump, being Trump, won't take any responsibility & will blame Pence Then he might think to dump Pence from his ticket, perhaps naming Haley as his running mate

Trump's approach to global health is THE EPITOME of penny wise & pound foolish. He cut funding for the Centers for Disease Control, causing an 80% cut in the money it spends on global disease outbreaks. He shut the NSC's entire global-health-security unit

In my book I call this "America's anti-worker exceptionalism." I explain that things are badly out of whack with workers having far too little power—Americans overwhelmingly want laws requiring paid sick days & family leave but Corporate America blocks it

America's exceptionally bad treatment of workers could speed the spread of the Coronavirus The U.S. is the ONLY wealthy nation that doesn't guarantee all workers paid sick leave, paid family leave & health coverage. This means many workers go to work sick

This is so colossally idiotic and dishonest that we should probably consider impeaching Mulvaney for High Crimes and Misdemeanors. (Numbskull Mulvaney doesn't realize that if the media didn't cover the Coronavirus, people would grow less careful & it would spread even more.)

Let's face it — Even though the coronavirus epidemic hasn't hit the U.S. with full force, Trump's mishandling of the epidemic & global health in general is far worse than George Bush's infamous looking out an airplane window at Katrina-bettered New Orleans

Trump's response to crisis is completely self-centered, focused on making Trump look good rather than protecting America. If the facts don’t make Trump look good, he attacks the messengers, blaming the media & Democrats—while trying to prevent scientists from keeping us informed.
