  2. but i mean i guess maybe i just don't have some kind of gene needed to understand Constantly Talking. every time i turn on a lets play that has talking, within thirty seconds i'm like "dude you don't have anything to say knock it off"

  3. like i'm not saying i'm really good, i'm saying i don't understand what you can do during a videogame stream other than play the game and comment on it, and that runs dry pretty quick. there's only so much to actually say.

  4. I guess my point is I can't imagine doing twitch better than I do it, and I don't do it well enough to get more than about twenty people, which doesn't surprise me at all. so what are they filling the space with?

  5. do they just play really *well*? are they funny, or something? what is the draw? what do they literally do for dozens of hours a day on camera?

  6. if i fantasize about becoming known for art, i figure i'll learn to make beautiful paintings or meaningful poems. if i imagine running a talk show, i figure i'll ask people unusual questions and make funny jokes. what is the imagined expertise at videogame streaming?

  7. i'm absolutely unwilling to soil my eyes by watching any of their stuff, but i think about it all the time. like i always hear about these naive young people who think they're going to become huge on twitch and make it their career and i'm like...

  8. it's worth noting that i have absolutely, positively no idea what the big name streamers do. like literally none. what could possibly be worth millions of subscribers? they can't possibly be funny, and there's only so much you can actually do while playing a game.

  9. i wonder a lot what twitch streamers do to get massive followings. i don't think my streams are remotely exciting, but i've never broken 22 simultaneous viewers and they're nearly all personal friends.

  11. it's not "never" and it's not "always" and it's *entirely goddamn reasonable* to expect all of our representatives and officials to have this skill

  12. you absolutely know i don't have a problem with strangeness! and if you didn't, i assure you, i don't! it's great! but it's an essential social skill to know when and where it's appropriate to display it to absolute strangers who will *not* understand it.

being at all normal or honest in our political business must be full of wild shit. finding a kitkat with a huge toothy bitemark taken out of the side in the office fridge and all your coworkers just look blankly and act like you're out of your mind for thinking it's weird

you know that notion that seinfeld is a show about four normal people living in some kafkaesque nightmare where social norms are violently changing around them but everyone treats them like they're out of their minds if they comment on it? that.

i don't like depicting reality in terms of media bullshit! but our political system has *actually* been driven to a cartoon state. there's very little else to compare it *to.*

anyway i absolutely hate this, i despise it, i am *extremely* chapped by having to say this, but it really is some The Office bullshit. like everyone is standing on desks hollering and bernie sanders is shouting "what are you dumbasses doing? why are you up there? we have jobs!"

Anyway, I could be reading more into this, but idk. It's just one in an extremely long series of "what the fuck" moments with politicians.

It's not a long jump from "oh who cares if i drink syrup in public" to responding to complaints about wage theft with "just walk into your bosses office and demand he pay you what you deserve!" Like, a complete lack of understanding of peoples internal state.

can someone who is so sheltered that they don't get why this would be seen as bad understand the impact of other actions one takes in public, and what people will think of them? Can they draft laws accordingly?
