That's a single point 0 + 0i being tracked through 1/12th rotations of two circles (not shown). One is at -1 + 0i and the other at 1 + 0i, both have radius sqrt(2). The left circle turns clockwise and the right circle counter-clockwise. GP/PARI code shown in terminal.
It just so happens that these specific parameters make that interesting curve. Adjusting the parameters makes other fractal-like patterns, most of them a bit more chaotic and less continuous-looking. I have a way to color points on the plane based on how they behave as well.
