I am a speed junkie. The opencl environment for AMD is one I mean to port to sometime, but the coding infrastructure is (opinion): hairier (relatively) because nvidia's work is a successor to sgi's.

I get the preference, I just prefer to allow literally everyone to do it, regardless of their platform. OpenGL ES is a bit too low of a bar for deeper zooms, WebGL falls into that category, but GLSL 1.3+ supports precision highp (64-bit floats), so that should be (mostly) enough.
