Randomly, a large part of my academic work was working on biological mathematics. I found that few mathematicians understood the biology enough and came up with some very eclectic ideas.

Issues often involved over simplification. The reverse is also true, many bio-scientists completely fail to understand even ideas like enzyme kinetics and use computer modelling ideas (like switching genes on/off) which is often wrong when kinetics equations should be used.
