@ConnorKrukosky when did the /our supercomputer must have exciting stark swoopy plastic panels so that photographs of it provoke envy/ trend begin?

Uh... That began with the first "supercomputer" look at the Cray-1 haha. I think if your going to spend a few billion dollars on a piece of hardware you expect it to look decent. I mean, people spend significantly less on cars and expect them too look nice vs being functional.

The Cray 1 is mild compared to the side decorations on https://www.cray.com/products/computing/cs-series/cs-storm … or the IBM Summit https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2018-06-ornl-summit-supercomputer.amp … Given the Connection Machine and modern PC led customization, it is easy to imagine (and to be appalled by) even gaudier deco on supercomputers

though it would be nice to have a way for downed nodes to indicate that they can be replaced without having to fish the information from a gui
