"Descended into lawlessness" is a strange phrase to be using about an American city, but it seems an accurate description of what's happening here.

You seem very concerned about, like, shampoo.

I'm concerned about the rule of law. History suggests that once that's gone, things get worse very fast.

Maybe you should be more concerned about the situation dude was put in where stealing trash bags full of stuff from Walgreens in broad daylight seemed like a good idea and less concerned about Walgreens' profit margins.

I believe the main factor that caused that to switch from seeming like a bad idea to seeming like a good one was the election of Chesa Boudin.

Paul, I respect your opinion so I'd appreciate you explaining this one a bit more. I'm not sure those with mental illness are rationalizing who the DA is before taking actions. I also don't buy that there aren't consequences. He can still be arrested and put into programs.

Source? "Almost doubled" sounds like a paraphrased statistic, yet I haven't seen any data to this effect.

I did find https://www.sfexaminer.com/opinion/a-recall-of-district-attorney-chesa-boudin-would-not-reduce-crime-in-san-francisco/ … but it doesn't go into detail on petty theft stats, unfortunately. Personally, I feel safer in a city with fewer rapes, assaults, and robberies - even if it means more people stealing from Walgreens. But I already ran away to Alameda ;)
