Your ancestors lived all over the world, but relatively few of them were your genetic ancestors (does that matter?)

So happy to have here to give a CHALK talk. Incredible results on the genetic basis of female-limited sexual dimorphism!

Stanford Statistics is hiring at all levels, we are seeking to diversify, in subject matter and demographics, don't hold back, even if you think you don't fit, that's a good thing: women and URM especially : see job postings here:

We've got some new work out on connections between genetic markers used in forensics, on one hand, and in DTC genetic tests and biomedical studies, on the other (i.e. STRs and SNPs) (Thread)

The Coop Lab has a new quantgen theory journal club starting up this fall. Our first paper is a classic: Lande 1976 It's got everything, from provocative equations relating long-run trait evolution to adaptive topographies to horse tooth data!

Fish teeth have been accumulating in the deep sea for millions of years. taps into this neglected archive to show pulses of origination in open-ocean ecosystems in wake of the K-Pg extinction. Great to be part of this project:

These Uni. rules are complicated, but it is important for faculty to be familiar with them (or know where to find resources) so that we can help students/postdocs faced with these issues, and help them maintain control over how/when cases are reported.

There's also tricky issues that I wasnt full aware of before going to a women-in-science session discussing mental health. Eg. Uni. Mental health providers aren't mandatory reporters, receptionists/nurses are. Ie reveal no details in making appointments

Good thread. Faculty & students knowing about mandatory reporting requirements is an important point. At we have anonymous helpline that students/faculty can call for advice on assault/harassement issues

Fun bunch of press interviews with today. I really hope someone quotes his "I've watched a lot of Marvel movies, so I know that just leaving these decisions to us [scientists] is a bad idea" comment.
