reading Bersani at grad school taught me that indeed they couldn’t be, and that therefore one needed to split ethics from sexuality entirely, stop romanticizing sex, and stop eroticizing ethics. now i am a degenerate perv and able to establish ethical commitments i can sustain

I went through a whole period of my life where I just thought sex wasn’t important to me. Aged like 20-25. I think it was bc I felt so averse to my own desires that I stifled them, feeling instinctively that they couldn’t be reconciled with my moral commitments.

i always find this sort of thing interesting and horrifying. people can actually try to censor those who refer to fascism as fascism, much like Andrew Doyle does, and still think of themselves as free speech absolutists. scary.

i’m saying this because i definitely want it to be clear 1) i don’t think that Helen Joyce is smart or that her book is interesting; I think they are *powerful* and need to be demolished; 2) i still think no-platforming fascists is the right move and the UK should have tried it

The problem with the policy of deplatforming terfs is that they currently have the platforms. But that’s shocking proof of the feebleness of UK institutions to transphobic hate, and isn’t an argument against deplatforming. I don’t consider Helen Joyce, a fascist, “worth” engaging

I also want to say that the following has been obvious since jump: that GCs are not going to be convinced; that they will plan to share clips of me looking dumb; that Twitter will probably take the GC side. And so *I would not have gotten this far if I hadn’t thought about that*.

I wish that it had been brought up any of the many times I’d mentioned it before now, when I sought community input, when it might have been possible to de-escalate more easily. But if I have to eat the shit, I will—I *absolutely* will not do this if it is going to harm people.

I just want to say, also, that i’m getting DMs from trans people who work on the front lines who are telling me they *do* want me to do these events. And others who are telling me “the community has spoken” and that the issue has been resolved. That’s quite frustrating!
