    Defaulting on the debt is generally believed to be likely to trigger a global economic catastrophe. Republicans generally use this vote as leverage on other unrelated policy issues. (Also, correction, the 'federal debt held by the public' increased 53% during the Trump Admin.)

    It is hard to explain just how rampant the lies are from prominent Republican legislators on simple, important, and easily verifiable things. We don't want to call them out individually because it doesn't help. But we also can't not tell you this is happening (and on one side).
