That doesn't sound good. There are standards for names - I can follow up to see which agency is leading this? Let us know.

but apparently it is ok because she took all my details and will fax someone (FAX?!) and that would all be fine, except I lost my wallet and am currently driving round illegally cos she couldn't even give me the bit of paper to say that one is on its way

I can look up the all of govt standard that exists for names (if that's useful for you?) Will leave it to
@NZTA to follow up your experience. -
I guess I just want to make sure that there *is* a standard, so yes please if you can find me a link. I would guess that some chinese people are just putting up with it, but it'd be like if your name was Robert, and we called you Ert, it makes no sense

There is a standard for names in the NZ Government Customer Information Quality (CIQ) Profiles - http://bit.ly/2FxnXLP Contact info@digital.govt.nz with any questions :-)

thanks! I'm guessing this is the crucial line in the doc (page 11) which to me reads that I am totally allowed to have my name have a gap and it still be my name (In fact I think some westerners can be called Mary Anne without a hyphen?)pic.twitter.com/4R1pVT34fd
