NZ Twitterverse: ISO-8601 says Monday is the first day of the week, does NZ follow that or does it use Sunday?

Pretty sure all Commonwealth countries have Monday first? Sunday first always confuses the crap out of me

Yeah, but before I try and get /usr/share/i18n/locales/en_NZ changed upstream I want to confirm that is the official view.

Currently failing searching DIA (@govtnz), @MBIEgovtnz & Standards NZ websites to see if they define Monday as the first day of the week.

Standards NZ has this .. https://shop.standards.govt.nz/catalog/8601%3A2004%28ISO%29/view … .. but it is unclear if that ISO 8601:2004 standard applies to NZ dates.

Would be awesome if you can. Before I ask upstream to change the default from Sun to Mon, I'd like to be able to verify the 'offical state'.

Sorry Ian, we’ve had a look and it seems NZ wasn’t on the ISO committee which developed this standard so nothing official on this from us.

Thanks for checking. Who is in charge of setting and defining the standards used in NZ? I mean someone must have said we (should) use dd/mm/yyyy.

Standards New Zealand manage the development of standards, they also publish & sell them but as mentioned NZ wasn't involved in the dvpt of this one. We'll continue to ask around but in the meantime maybe @ArchivesNZ has some ideas?

Good question! Not one we know the answer to. If you email research.archives@dia.govt.nz one of our archivists can have a look into the question in more detail and suggest if there are any relevant records in our possession.
