          Govt.nz has been a registered domain for over 30 years, fair enough to keep as is but I think Gov.nz should at least redirect to Govt.nz

          It's possible that you don't understand the .nz hierarchy. We allow domains to be registered at the 2nd level now, but we didn't use to.

          Actually - most major English speaking governments shorten it to Gov instead of Govt! Not particularly referring as a TLD

          5/ a technical term. Thirdly, it's just a name. In France it's .gouv.fr, in Canada it's gc.ca - different countries have different names....

          No, domain names are meant to be unique. And Canada does it because gc means government of Canada and gouvernment du Canade equally.

          7/7 it is the way it is. I did do a solid amount of numerical analysis on this at the time (2003?) but it would be well out of date now.
