Thank you, Rhode Island, for the trust you have placed in me these past ten years. It has been a privilege to serve as your treasurer and governor, and I know the future is bright.

Today is the one year anniversary of the first case of COVID-19 in RI. It's been a long, difficult year, filled with tragedy, heartbreak, and loss. But in our darkest days, we came together and we lifted one another up. We did what Rhode Islanders always do: we found hope.

Great meeting with this afternoon to discuss the next steps in Rhode Island’s COVID-19 response and vaccine rollout. With a 1.9% case positivity rate and over 225,000 vaccine doses administered, we’re on a good path.

Construction in Rhode Island never stopped during COVID. We implemented rigorous protocols and were able to keep workers safe & employed. Today I was thrilled to visit the hardworking crew building the new Aloft Hotel in Providence.

Going out today? Slow down to stay safe if you must travel during periods of snow. If the temperature outside is near freezing, it is safest to assume ice is present on roadways- drive accordingly.

I was saddened to hear of Judge Wiley's passing. A veteran, a brilliant legal mind, and RI’s first Black judge, he helped pave the way for a new generation of talented, diverse lawyers to serve on our courts. I'm keeping his family in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Rhode Island is well-positioned to stay ahead of COVID-19. Now, with a single website and phone number to sign up for appointments at any of our State-run sites, we’re taking our successful testing model and bringing it to this final frontier in our fight to end this pandemic.

We’re also dramatically scaling up capacity in these State-run sites, with more sites to come online in the northern and southern regions of Rhode Island and a goal of doubling the daily capacity at State-run sites from 1,400 to 2,800 over the coming weeks.

Phase 2 will be all about speed and scale. We’ll continue our partnerships with cities and towns, with an emphasis on the most impacted communities, to ensure the vaccine is efficiently and equitably distributed.

Phase 1 was focused on taking a targeted approach to reach those most at-risk of severe disease and hospitalization, and that approach helped shore up and preserve Rhode Island’s health care system.
