It doesn’t matter—polling shows Kevin P leading the Dem candidates. But he’s a covert Republican basically. I voted for
@johnrobertdrake and if you really want to vote for someone, might as well choose him—only pro-vaccine Dem that has spoken favorably of voting No on the recall.2 replies 1 retweet 3 likes -

I like Drake, but your comment is false. I am also a pro-vaccine Democratic candidate who has spoken against the recall and support voting no.

A Concerned Citizen Retweeted Governor Watts of California (Daniel Watts)
Sorry, but this tweet is decidedly not pro-vaccine. It’s why I didn’t vote for you. I am very very pro-free speech, but the failure to see essential public health need to stop anti-vax disinformation outside vaccination sites means you’re not pro-vaccine.https://www.twitter.com/governorwatts/status/1424834935131557889 …

That proposed law is unconstitutional. I'm not going to put people in prison for saying false things. It's not anti-vaccine to decline to imprison people who say dumb things. Signing that law would force California to spend millions of dollars losing a free speech lawsuit.

You realize that law would also imprison pro-vaccine pamphlets? That law would stop me from standing outside of a vaccination site and handing out cookies to people to encourage them to go inside.

The First Amendment protects speech we hate. That's the whole purpose of it. I will never sign a law that violates the first amendment as obviously as that law does. That doesn't mean I support the speech I hate, it means I support the constitutional rights of all people.

There are limits on free speech. Narrow exceptions for safety, and given the direness of the pandemic, this law or something very similar to it meets the criteria for regulating/limiting speech. Anyone who can’t see that after living thru this pandemic can’t get my vote. Sorry.

I'm literally a First Amendment attorney. So is the guy who wrote the article from which I took a screenshot. The Supreme Court is already spoken on this. You can approach within 6 ft of people outside of medical clinics to talk with them. This law is unconstitutional.
