I see this buzzing but it honestly seems perfectly adequate for that specific audience (tech-averse old people), especially relative to just how many absurdly overpriced plug&plays exist for hanafuda and whatever else

I get the pain of watching people play these things, though—I wasn't so pumped about the MD Mini bc I needed another way to play all those games again, I was pumped bc it seemed like my days of watching ppl play (& form inaccurate opinions on) MD via ATgames trash would be over

years ago i got my family a 2600 atgames, the last gen that still had the controller ports. anyhoo it's awful; cheap, shitty wireless + HD, got about a quarter-second input lag. parents love it! said space invaders was just like they remembered (it is a famiclone port on this)

that I can tolerate, it's the "gee I guess these games just sucked" from people who've long forgotten what they originally looked/sounded like that irks me
