Holly crap. I'm watching a documentary on the Kent State shootings, and it's incredibly depressing to watch. Footage of people saying, literally, that they were sorry the National Guard didn't kill more students were featured. This reminds me that such attitudes are not new.

Yes and no. More street level violence. I find myself laughing at the things they call ‘riots’ today. I remember REAL riots, some, like the ‘68 Chicago convention, perpetrated by the police on peaceful protesters. But the institutional rot represented by Trump is uniquely scary.

there are violent divisions now. Nazis and other right-wingers have driven cars into crowds, killing people. Legislatures in several states have passed or tried to pass laws legitimizing such attacks. 1/3

Further, the enablement of and apologism for all those shootings is its own kind of stochastic violence. It's not some kind of string of horrible coincidences. 2/3

But most of all -- see what ICE has been doing. That's violence, much of lethal. 3/3

I think it's important to remember just how recent WWII actually was... and the realization that Germans aren't all that different than us. These attitudes persist and we've done some unreasonable things in the not so recent past. Humans have a lot of growing to do.
