One of the most harmful ideas I'd that if you only "fight hard" enough, you can "beat cancer." It suggests that those who die didn't fight hard enough. Never mind that cancer biology is king, not the patient's will.https://twitter.com/lovlykatielumps/status/983314877853904897 …

I have cancer. I don't fight it. When I die, will it be because I didn't fight hard enough? Warrior or not; the cancer grows at the same rate. Pressure is added when personal control is assigned to a patient in a powerless diagnosis. If I could fight cancer, I would have won.

Framed the way u just have, sure that's a deeply unhelpful idea. However variables around optimal orientation, self-care, and indeed mindset been shown to affect outcomes for all illnesses. So while guilt won't help dodge the grim reaper's scythe, fatalism certainly won't either

That's really a pretty pathetic thing to say to someone or about someone. Along with gossips & the stigmas some attach to bad microbes some would seem to be about 5' under already. Bad microbes don't discriminate.

@lillai23 @LovlyKatieLumps I had "late stage" lung cancer, wasn't expected to live more than 6 months, 12 with tx. That was 2010. Some see fighting as strategy as well as the desire and willingness to live. I wanted to set the example to my grandkid: Never give up.

Yeah, my dad fought multiple kinds of cancer, even metastatic small cell lung cancer, liver cancer, then leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis hopped on board. 2 weeks. You can't fight your way out of that.

I know . . . I hate that crap. If they'd just really listen to themselves and the implications of what they're saying.

When my mom had cancer, every single person said she could beat it if she fought hard enough or prayed enough. It is such a cruel & thoughtless thing to say.

I'm so pleased to see a man of science call out the appalling bull.... surrounding the "Thinking positive can cure all diseases" It can't and doesn't, neither can a vegan diet, drinking alkaline water, eating a coconut while standing on you head.

I'm pretty sure I'm proof that "fighting hard" doesn't get rid of cancer - I've tried nine different treatment plans over more than five years so far to try and get rid of my cancer without success. They helped some of course I'm still alive but I also have more cancer than ever!
