I'm afraid the raw number of deaths is not how you measure mortality. Mortality looks at the total number of deaths from a disease divided by the population and adjusted for age. Also the argument that survival has improved merely as a consequence of increased diagnosis of earlier DCIS just isn't back up by the data. Considering that stage 3 breast cancer has seen the greatest increase in 5 year survival rate.
