No one is arguing that there isn't more harm than there need be. Even if the number is "only" 20K, that's too high. However, intentionally featuring ONLY the highest estimate out there feeds into a narrative that medicine is highly dangerous. We have to make decisions in marketing and storytelling. We chose to present available research as an entry point to begin a conversation about much more than that. We interviewed some who believe that number is too low, some too high.

Ah, so you don't ignore the number. Think of it this way. 715K die in hospitals every year. If 440K of those deaths are due to medical error, that would be almost 62% of all hospital deaths. It's incredibly implausible on its face.
