I used to think that there might be something to acupuncture. I really did. But the more I evaluated the evidence, the more underwhelmed I was. Acupuncture is a theatrical placebo, nothing more. Harriet Hall agrees.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/false-claims-for-acupuncture/ …

There’s so much quackery in the world, it’s so sad when people fall for it. A family member who is an oncologist has been to so many funerals of people who decided vitamins were a better cure than chemo.

I remember being in the Coop in Cambridge MA overhearing a guy on the phone saying “I know I’m a homeopathic doctor and you don’t need most vaccines but tetanus is one you really need”. And I just thought “where do I start?”

When I was in treatment for infertility, acupuncture was highly recommended. It felt like woo, but when you had paid so much in $$ & hope, what was a little more?

I'm still in two minds about it. I had on-going lower back pain a couple of years ago and my GP gave me some acupuncture. I was highly sceptical but it actually gave me immediate relief, though it was only temporary. May have been the placebo affect, but it worked for me.

That was definitely the placebo effect. Like you say, if it works for you, and you're not looking for it to cure anything objective, great. Though fake acupuncture using toothpicks twirled on the skin is safer and has the same effect in studies.

As a homeless youth in #Seattle, I had access to very specific clinics associated with the shelters. The clinic made me see a “naturopath” alongside the “traditional “ MD. Dandelion tea, acupuncture, etc. for what turned out to be a #neuroendocrine issue 👎🏻

Sir: in science, peer review matters more than opinion. Please refer to the papers below, prior to reaching populist conclusions: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3658605/ … https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK409491/pdf/Bookshelf_NBK409491.pdf …

Sir: That meta-analysis does not show what you think it does,no matter how much it's spun. In fact, it's good evidence that acupuncture effects are clinically insignificant!https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/can-we-finally-just-say-that-acupuncture-is-nothing-more-than-an-elaborate-placebo/ …

Know the #Mousetrap has been running for a while.. but after 5000+ yrs of TCM surely it's not #Theatrical any more.. People with Dis-ease oviously find it useful maybe..? 💊

It's not 5,000 years of Chinese medicine. The Chinese had given up on it too until the 50s when they ran out of real medicine.
