I started to come to @MaxBoot's realization about conservatism 20 years ago when the fever led to the impeachment of Bill Clinton and the anti-intellectual and antiscience appalled me. Change is very, very hard, though. I still stuck with Republicans through the early 2000s. 2/

It wasn't until the invasion of Iraq under false pretenses after 9/11 that I finally realized that enough was enough. I couldn't take the sheer crazy that the Republican Party has become and the cesspit of anti-intellectualism and antiscience that conservatism has become. 3/

As for now, holy hell. I'm so glad I got out when I did. I saw what was coming, but even I couldn't have predicted just how horrible conservatism would get. In retrospect, I realize that the crazy was always there. I just chose to ignore it. /end
