Alternatively, "Chemotherapy won't cure every patient with cancer so why bother using it?" Gun nut logic is basically the Nirvana fallacy. To them if a solution wont prevent every single gun massacre in the future, it's worthless and not worth doing. It's a recipe for inaction.https://twitter.com/kurteichenwald/status/964369934007463938 …

If gun nut logic was used with medicine: “A few treatments for specific illnesses won’t cure every disease. So why do any?” “Gun control targeting specific problems won’t cure all gun shootings. So why do any?” I know. They won’t get the analogy.

There is also the importance of changing the culture, which gun control advocates are trying to do. Enacting new laws and regulations are a key part of that and help create a feedback loop.

So... they're leaving no choice other than physically destroying every gun in existence. This is at least theoretically possible, and it *will* prevent any kind of gun massacres.

The more interesting question is how do the Swiss with its high gun ownership keep its violent crime rate and shootings low?

Culture change will be the most difficult part because our society romanticizes violence. Video games, television, some sports, bullying, and our domestic violence issues all point to a culture that has a sense of violence engrained deep within it's roots. It all needs to change

In my limited experience, gun lovers also deny evolution and enjoy line dancing. Is this just a sampling error or am I on to something?

@kurteichenwald Nice analogies, Marco Rubio is an idiot and always has been an idiot. This is just the latest iteration. The other “argument” I like, “cars kill people, should we ban them?”, question here: do assault rifles have an alternative societal useful purpose?

Yes, that's a truly idiotic gun nut analogy: Cars, knives, baseball bats, axes. The analogies forget that all those objects have a primary function that does not involve killing.

You know the gun lobby in USA is right, gun bans won’t stop every massacre, but every massacre eats away at the fibre of America and without change it will cause a cataclysmic end to its being.
