Sure. Testimonals are, almost by definition, poor evidence. Either way, of course. Well run clinical trials are what gives us good quality evidence.

Clinical trials also require good preclinical evidence to suggest biological plausibility. Otherwise they are unethical. My favorite example: No clinical trial is needed to conclude that homeopathy cannot work because its precepts rely on impossible physics and chemistry.
