in 2010 I was invited by @joeschwarcz to speak about cancer quackery at the Trottier Symposium in Montreal, with @bengoldacre, @michaelshermer, and James Randi. It was a huge honor to me. 2/

My dad (child psych in Detroit) appeared on Kelly & Co back in the late 70s/early 80s. At the break, the producer told him he wasn't being "controversial" enough. My dad told the producer he was there to educate the public on the topic. He never got invited back.

Did you see Jon Stewart's 2004 appearance on CNN's Crossfire? He criticized the show's phony "debate" format so harshly that the whole show got cancelled soon after. Sadly we did not learn a lot of broader lessons from the whole thing.

I don't mean to just be a random Jon Stewart fanboy in your mentions; I'm just recalling the last time (to my knowledge) that these concerns briefly came to the forefront of the national discourse.
