It must be projection, given how cranks never admit to being wrong about their crank beliefs. Real scientists, even if they conclude that something is very unlikely to work, will leave open the possibility of being mistaken and gracefully change their minds if evidence warrants.

As if there would be some version of the Hauge for simply pointing out the obvious fact that a dubious claim (often promoted by scamers) of a drug being useful as a treatment outside of its normal scope of use lacks good evidence at this time.
