We are in the middle of a vaccine refusal crisis. The same people who are refusing vaccines are in a position to accept or reject climate science. The future of our planet depends on learning our lesson about why people distrust science—and addressing that distrust.

You'll find creationists, antivaxxers, antimaskers, etc., happily citing science that agrees (or, more accurately, appears to agree with or support) their preexisting ideology.

For sure—although I'd say what you're talking about is a little different. People don't want to believe conclusions that cut against their pre-existing ideology. But with climate change and vaccines, unlike creation "science", I think it's more about distrust in institutions.

There is no "anti-climate-science" ideology, the way there's a "Biblical literalist" ideology. There's only "I don't trust liberal institutions and their conclusions"—whatever those conclusions happen to be.

Even people who claim to “believe the science” will reject it when it conflicts with their priors. See, e.g., nuclear power.
