I'm puzzled Some of the transgender community seem to think that if you disagree with any of their views, you must therefore hate them But if they disagree with you...does that mean, therefore, that they hate you ? Puzzled of Weston-super-Mare

I think they are still finding their voice, and many are approaching it with an external ferocity that mirrors the internal ferocity they need to have in order to exist. Disagreements become less a matter of understanding and take on the face of a challenge to that existence.

Also, as I’ve been forced to learn over the last 6-7 weeks since
@ScienceBasedMed inadvertently published a positive review of a book full of bad science and conspiracy theories about trans teens, they really is a lot of hate buried under many “gender critical” (GC) arguments.8 replies 24 retweets 261 likes -

It really was a learning experience for me, with these “disagreements” often involving conspiracy theories about social media influencers “seducing” our daughters to come out as trans.

In addition, the conspiracy theory includes a greedy medical-surgical complex that can’t wait to pump teens full of male hormones and do “top surgery” on them. This is a huge misrepresentation of current evidence-based guidelines for caring for trans adolescents.

Then the conspiracy theory adds a cabal of influencers, medical profession, and government “silencing” or “censoring” GC viewpoints. Never mind that the GC viewpoint is featured incessantly on right wing media and those who cry “censorship” usually have the loudest megaphones.

Seriously, when
@stevennovella and I decided in June to retract that review and publish more evidence-based material on the treatment of trans teens, we received more hate on social media, in the comments, and my email than we get from antivaxxers. It wasn’t even close.1 reply 17 retweets 146 likes -

So, yeah, after that experience I can TOTALLY understand why trans people would perceive what Mr. Cleese so euphemistically calls “disagreement” as hate, because the hate being a lot of the “disagreement” to which they are subjected is real and intense,

It’s also understandable to me that trans people would be very sensitive to and defensive over what people like Mr. Cleese perceive as just “disagreements.”
