My former political party has become the stupid party. They embrace stupidity. Now I know you’ll say the GOP has always been this way, but as a lifelong Republican until 2 years ago, I respectfully disagree. It’s Trump. Trump is stupid, he’s the cult leader, stupidity rules.

I will give you that it's gotten a lot worse a lot faster since the rise of Donald Trump, but how did he take the party over in the first place? He couldn't have done it if the groundwork hadn't been laid over *decades* preceding his ride down the escalator at Trump Tower.

Pretty much, and that started happening in a big way during the 1970s, when Reagan challenged Ford for the party nomination (and almost beat him) the cycle before he won the nomination and then the Presidency on 1980.
