I understand the sentiment. But nevertheless it is a vile one. To wish disease and death on another human being.

Precisely. As much as I detest antivaxxers, I try to resist reaching the point of gleefully expressing schadenfreude when one of them falls ill. I understand that it can be difficult.

You’re a doctor, you *shouldn’t* express glee when an anti-vaxxer gets COVID. I’m a comic, this is a joke that other people liked a lot. Good luck with your doctoring!

I bet you’re one of those comics who complains about “cancel culture” when criticized for offensive jokes like this.🙄

Nope and I’m not complaining now, I’m responding. You QTed my joke to virtue-signal your preferred behavior to your followers. You also admitted you don’t like anti-vaxxers, whom you ostensibly treat. Are MDs supposed to do that on their professional accounts?

This isn't my professional account, and I've made it very clear many times that when I say "antivaxxer" I do NOT mean "vaccine hesitant," for whom I try to have empathy. I mean the ideologues and grifters who spread antivaccine disinformation. I guess it's time to say it again.

When I refer to antivaxxers, I'm referring to the likes of @RobertKennedyJr, Andrew Wakefield, and the various antivaccine propagandists who stoke vaccine hesitancy. Sometimes I even take people on "our side" to task for being too loose with the term "antivaxxer."

Is there overlap? Of course, but I tend to reserve the term "antivaxxer" for those who actively spread antivaccine disinformation, protest against vaccine mandates, and/or (especially) make money spreading antivaccine disinformation.

I'm curious how to talk to someone that is hesitant about the vaccine, only the Covid one, because they are afraid of possible long term effects. They are in the lowest risk category, with no preexisting conditions. How do I convince them to get a shot?

They are not someone that is against it for political reasons.

A good place to start is to find out what they say are their reasons. Often, if you dig deeper, you'll find some reason that they don't trust medicine, pharma, etc.

They don't trust pharma or that the doctors that made it are unbiased to the company/govt that paid for the research.

That, then, is political—or at least ideological. Certainly, it's not unreasonable to be wary of big pharma, but there are times when it is reasonable to trust the regulatory agencies overseeing vaccine safety that regulate pharma.
