This is, of course, utter nonsense. I know primary care docs who've been deluged with patient requests for #Ivermectin prescriotions, leaving aside the people getting it through veterinary sources.🙄https://twitter.com/Carl_Spackler99/status/1419309781886685184 …

Are you forgetting that this is a prescription drug? Thus- the suggestion that discussion will affect patient behavior is completely false. It’s doctors who decide this care. Why are we afraid of society and individual doctors making decisions?

I certainly disagree strongly with anyone suggesting Ivermectin as a substitute for vaccine. But it strikes me as a little bit odd that North American agencies are so reluctant to give it emergency authorization for use in case of breakthrough infections. It's 1/

Your tweet is very reasonable. I don't understand how an experimental "drug" with no side effects can take a back seat to an "experimental vaccine."pic.twitter.com/05mBHEcps0

Ivermectin is not a drug without any side effects. There is insufficient clinical evidence of its benefit, whereas vaccines are demonstrably safe and effective. The COVID-19 vaccines are not “experimental”. They were rigorously tested for safety in animal and clinical trials.

Yup. The term “investigational” is required by law for any drug that has not yet gotten full FDA approval. Scientifically and medically #COVIDVaccines are not experimental any more, not after phase 3 trials involving tens of thousands of people and billions of doses administered.

Understood. But we took a gamble on vaccines that were experimental that are still under observation. Yet we couldn’t do the same with a drug that has proven to help people around the world? Isn’t this a pandemic? Shouldn’t we be looking at all methods?

Evidence talks. BS walks. And, make no mistake, existing evidence for ivermectin is weak to nonexistent.🙄

"existing evidence for ivermectin is weak to nonexistent". From acceptable Western sources. Africa, Asia, India are all getting results. But those countries' doctors seem to be considered degenerate. I'm okay with the vaccines; just not for me, at this time.

No one considers these physicians and scientists “degenerate”, but to date most of their trials have been small, with low methodological quality and disparate interventions and controls. As such we can’t have confidence in the conclusions.
