There's certainly overlap, and we should talk about it. There is an interesting question about how that overlap works. My read is that it's partly grounded by the conspiracies that involve mass ascription of malice to medical professionals, but I have a bias towards that lens.https://twitter.com/gorskon/status/1418931597907275777 …

I don't disagree. Whatever meritorious scientific criticism of current medical and surgical management of transgender children there might be, that's not what this is about. It's about the the disturbingly strong conspiracy theory aspect I've been perceiving in the GC movement.

As I said before, with its bad cherry picked science and tendency towards conspiracy theories, the GC movement inhibits, rather than promotes, the sort of rigorous research that would benefit trans teens by improving medical and surgical management.

I'm pretty sure we're on the same page with all of that. My point about the centrality of conspiracy theories to the overlap is that there are a range of potential causes here, including general political association, shared anti-medical commitments, etc. 1/2

My read is that conspiracy theories are central, but these others may be a better explainer. Some social/political science has to happen to work through that. All of those things are present; the question is really more what's building the association in movements. 2/2

I also like to add: In the US and Europe, all conspiracy theories eventually tend to cast the Jews as the villains and manipulators. Seeing that is a good indication of when an idea has started to morph into a conspiracy theory.https://chican3ry.medium.com/jk-rowling-gender-ideology-and-antisemitism-7dd043bad37b …

Of course, this goes along with your thesis regarding ideology and political identity.
