I wanted to check how hot my M1 Mac is getting, so looking through articles and I find this… Why would you name a temperature app “Fanny”???pic.twitter.com/nMkE92OUgp

I got a new M1 iMac last month, and I really do like it. However, whether or not native apps are faster seems to depend on the app. Apple apps are definitely way faster on it, but Microsoft's "native M1" apps don't seem any faster at all...

Yeah, for sure. Though, even without specific apps being faster, the whole operating system seems a lot faster on it. It’s crazy though, this little £600 Mac mini massively outperforms my colleague’s £5000 iMac Pro when compiling code!

To be fair, I haven't really given the new M1 machine a proper test. I need to edit some large images in Photoshop or some 4K video, to give it a real test.

Oh yeah. All the podcasts I listen to have people who edit huge audio files and videos, and they say it’s near impossible to go back to Intel CPU machines afterwards, cause it just handles everything so much better, so much more smoothly.

I'm definitely going to order the new MacBook Pro when it is announced. I just don't know if I'll get the 14" or 16" screen.

Oh SAME. I cannot wait, especially since it’s very likely to have a miniLED screen. I’m gonna get the 14”. I had a 13” MBP before, and replaced it with a 16” MBP last year. It was just too big, and way too loud - not likely to have the volume problem on Apple Silicon though!

That's why I can't decide. I'd love the bigger screen, but when travel starts up again I fear the bigger machine would be just too big ever to use on a plane except for those rare occasions when I get first or business class.

In any event, I've been working on a fairly uncomplicated PowerPoint file this morning with maybe four or five apps open, and my MacBook Air's fan has been almost continuously running. It's ridiculous. I've had to keep the machine plugged in.

Oh, the MacBook Air is by far the machine where it makes the most difference compared to its predecessor, I think. It’s absurd how powerful and efficient the M1 is vs the Intel chips that came before. I never hear the fans on my M1 Mac mini spin, & the M1 MBA doesn’t have them!
