David Gorski, MD, PhD Retweeted Prof. Gavin Yamey MD MPH

It's not unexpected, though, given the previous borderline eugenicist thinking expressed in which it was said that only the elderly and those with pre-existing health problems had anything to worry about.https://twitter.com/GYamey/status/1417675243028721664 …

“There’s no need to worry about all these Covid deaths in US kids, because the ones who die have pre-existing conditions” is a viewpoint that I never thought I’d read during this awful pandemic. Yet here we are. What is happening? How did we get here? I’m so tired of this s**t.

Exactly. We're seeing the same bad arguments antivaxxers have been making for years repurposed for #COVID19, including every contortion of logic imaginable to portray #CovidVaccine as more dangerous than COVID.https://twitter.com/doritmi/status/1417680097155321856 …

It’s, unfortunately, not an unusual argument from antivaccine activists. If a child died from a preventable disease they argue the child wasn’t healthy, implying it didn’t matter. The chilling thing is hearing this from people who didn’t use to be antivaccine.

Yeah it’s absolutely vile for people to say that they were old anyway. Or we need to weed out the sick. Or some other BS. Anything to avoid the inconvenience of wear a mask.

The author of the quoted study is on the record saying that healthy kids should get vaccinated but with a single dose.https://twitter.com/MartyMakary/status/1417241468901773314?s=19 …

That's why I recommend 1-dose in healthy kids for now until we have better data.

To put it another way, covid can give you a pre-existing condition for the next thing you run into.

My nephews both are sick with COVID, and while I’m sure they will recover as they’re both healthy generally, they are still really suffering. Fever of 102, no energy, zoned out. Their mum is terrified.

People need to realise that even while their kid may be extremely unlikely to die, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re going to shrug it off like the sniffles either. And meanwhile, my nephews have passed it to their father, and their grandparents are isolating now too.
