Here's a hint. @guardiannews is a UK publication, and UK libel laws are notoriously plaintiff-friendly. So you can bet the lawyers went over this story and vetted it heavily before it was published.

Ive just gone through this process with another UK publication over a commentary, and the legal vetting process is far more than what American publications do.

I stand by everything I said in the article. Also the link to the dataset is one they provided. In fact the link is still there on the copy of their paper on Europe PMC and the dataset is still up, so arguing it's not their data is going to be... Tricky?

As I said, it is possible that the obviously fake data is not the data from their study, but that in and of itself really just raises more questions
