Antivax really started moving into the right wing mainstream in 2015, as California passed SB 277, a law eliminating nonmedical exemptions to school vaccine mandates. That's when antivaxxers learned to attract the right with anti-gov messages of "freedom" and "parental rights."https://twitter.com/Lollardfish/status/1415041007532576774 …

I really liked it better when antivax was an ugly fringe issue. At the same time, I was always afraid of it moving more broadly into right-wing anti-science culture. And it has. And it's bad.

Sadly, by the time #COVID19 hit, the alliance between the right and antivaxxers was pretty well cemented. Oh, sure, there are left wing antivaxxers (RFK Jr. Marianne Williamson, etc.), but they aren't mainstream in @TheDemocrats. Antivaxxers are mainstream in @GOP.

Yep. It was the second @GOP primary debate for the 2016 election cycle. I wrote about it on @ScienceBasedMed at the time.https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/donald-trump-and-the-dangerous-vaccine-politics-of-the-2016-presidential-race/ …

I saw an Andrew Wakefield talk where he said Democrats were on big pharma a payroll and well, antivaxxers believe his nonsense

Yep, I studied the voting. 80% of GOP legislators voted against strengthening vax mandate AND against raising tobacco age to 21 (but in latter case, $$).https://twitter.com/JohnMashey/status/1059303945233821699 …
