We'd have reached 70% vaccinated a long time ago if instead of censoring anti-vaxers, social media platforms allowed them to use their platform on condition they publicly debate people who actually know the data and are actually able to debate.

a better strategy is to let them be visited by a weeping relative

Debating cranks gives them a veneer of legitimacy and oxygen. There’s really no point, it’s exhausting and a waste of time. It takes zero effort to generate BS (magnets, graphene) and a ton of effort to debunk.

The current approach of censorship is obv not working. It simply stokes the argument that "they are censoring us because we must be right, otherwise they wouldn't censor". Open debate is always the best way to go. Avi has debated well in the past and it has swayed ppl I know.

That depends on the formula. Also the target is the audience, not the opponent usually.

I agree. The target is the audience. Few, if any, debaters change their position due their opponent's points. The audience is trying to decide what is more compelling. Facts, though, are not as compelling as emotion. Cicero was quite correct, I think.

These theories are already being treated this way. Debate is a good thing. Maybe this same mindset is why many doctors now hardly explain all of the treatment options and potential outcomes to their patients, but rather dictate the decision they already made.
