Dr. Joel Kahn is a well-regarded "integrative" cardiologist. So why is he spreading #COVID19 and #antivaccine disinformation on social media? Simple. "Integrative" medicine can be a "gateway" to antivaccine beliefs.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2021/07/09/celebrity-vegan-cardiologist-dr-joel-kahn-has-become-an-antivaccine-covid-19-crank/ …

Cardiology is a great example. Most cardiologists already integrate fact-based nutrition/exercise/lifestyle science into their practice without calling themselves “integrative.”

Just curious, can you think of any reasons why a cardiologist would feel the need to distinguish themselves as "integrative" in the first place? Is there a demographic of prospective patients who understand this term to have a specific meaning?

To add to my notes in the sub-thread there re “quackery”, IME a lot of docs overestimate how “science based” they’re being. If they were actually following a scientific mindset, the absurdly high levels of gaslighting patients re “it’s just anxiety” would be a lot lower.

Yep. I was told twice that my migraine disorder was just me, overreacting, by my local hospital. My cousin finally drove me to Mass Gen’s ER where their excellent neurologists treated me and I started my path to a more integrative approach.
