Depends on the area, but it does seem that in my area, flying the flag is a good sign the owner is conservative and engaging in performative patriotism. Not universally true, of course, but the flag+Trump sign metric says it mostly is.

"I pledge allegiance to my flag & the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty & justice for all." Francis Bellamy 1892, Baptist minister, Christian socialist. Wanted "equality" & "fraternity" yet demurred due to women, blacks; feared nation not ready.

We in the UK didn't engage in the flag worship so common (and normalised by the "pledge" in schools) in our former colonies, but it has been imported of late, and is almost invariably a sign of a right wingnut being perfomatively nationalist. Doubly so for the flag of St George.

It wasn't so long ago that prominent displays of the American flag weren't so obvious a signifier of right wingnuttery. Sure, there was a tendency to indicate a right-winger, but it wasn't nearly so pronounced.
