He was warming Professor (I’m not sure if the right title is Prof. Or Dr., and apologize if I’m wrong) Stabell against inadvertently helping that effort.

Correct, hence my comment about naivete. Antivaxxers misrepresent what "informed consent" is, bake exaggerating (or inventing outright) harms from vaccines and downplaying benefits. I've written about this tactic many times over the years.

Naivete is spot on. If you say "I rather go to prison than get vaccinated" (in hypothetical context), and later get surprised that antivax use that quote.https://www.tv2fyn.dk/odense/omdelt-flyer-advarer-mod-vacciner-fynsk-vaccineforsker-foeler-sig-misbrugt …

Communication is a big issue. Sensitive science should ideally be explained by authors e.g. on Twitter so others can use it to debunk misuse. Sensational phrases are easily misused. There are clear faults here as in many other places, also by media (but again Denmark is not US).

I am finding suggestions that Denmark doesn’t have a problem with
#antivaxxers pretty hard to swallow. Actually: I call bullshit. Up until very recently you had Peter Gøtzsche heading up the Nordic Cochrane. I am a co-author here, along with@michaelgheadhttps://www.nature.com/articles/s41541-017-0004-x …4 replies 2 retweets 10 likes -

He is no longer listed on the page "Our Team". In this article he is called an Oxford Professor. Some interesting claims in that story.https://www.sciencefocus.com/news/the-coronavirus-may-not-have-originated-in-china-says-oxford-professor/ …

News to me that Gøtzsche had begun taking payments from antitvax. Well,
@StabellBenn defended him as he was booted, claiming "We need Gøtzsche" and supported his attacks on the@cochranecollab review on the HPV vaccine. https://sundhedspolitisktidsskrift.dk/nyheder/1486-vaccineforsker-vi-har-brug-for-gotzsche.html …pic.twitter.com/ZvQssK8LLF

Why are you surprised? Götzsche has been trending antivax for at least 3-4 years. It surprises me not at all that he’d agree to serve as an expert witness for RFK Jr.

Well. Gøtzsche declared that his plan was to meet-and-greet them to change their minds... not to adopt their state of mind for change. Honestly. I am surprised and I hope his many supporters take notice.

I remember the first time
#antivaxxers said Gøtzsche was claiming the#HPV vaccine was “causing serious neurological harms” I actually defended him. Thought he’d been “taken out of context”. More fool me! He thinks he can have it all ways, charm the#antivax but keep credibility.pic.twitter.com/vftU2nGbFP
