Bret Weinstein should stick to evolutionary biology. He is clearly clueless at epidemiology and pharmacovigilance. https://twitter.com/BretWeinstein/status/1408194395359256580 …

Given how his "arguments" in this thread are entirely based on anecdotes screenshotted from DMs, I'm not sure he should stick to anything scientific at all. There's a basic failure of good evidence-based thinking here.

True. I've seen elsewhere that he clearly believes the version of #lableaktheory in which the virus was "engineered" or otherwise not natural. As an evolutionary biologist, he should recognize how bad the science is behind those claims, but he clearly does not.

I think we can agree at least two out of three of those possibilities are not going to happen and his sanity is already questionable.pic.twitter.com/3Ektle6d1b

At least there's a paucity of direct evidence for anything there, so irresponsible speculation isn't also dead wrong. There's a massive body of evidence about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines and it points to reactions no more severe than to Tdap in 99.9% of pts. He's just wrong.

He has exactly one pubmed-indexed scientific work, unless he uses a diff name. From 2002: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11909679/  Then again, so do I, under my professional name. But at least mine is in virology and I don't opine as an expert on other topics.

There are a number of what I would consider respectable experts who suggest that at this point, the lab leak hypothesis is at least just as likely as a natural origin. Which is also to say, we don’t have direct evidence of either. Do you really discount the lab theory outright?
