I saw a tweet from the actual inventors of the tech. He didn't invent it. He was listed in the acknowledgements of the people who did. He did some early work that inspired their actual invention. I think.

If I have to go with the Science paper of 1990 as a reference, I would say UW-Madison WARF would have the paternity on that claim. My understanding is that using nucleic acid injectable into muscle was property of WARF, the biotech he worked for (not even CEO) got a license from.

Interestingly, the lab I did my PhD in was injecting plasmid constructs into muscle to test the activity of various promoter elements with a reporter gene. It was so long ago that I think we were using CAT.
